Download sites

December 24th, 2006

I'm a little peeved at the hundred million sites on the web that just link to downloads without actually providing any content themselves. See, I have what's known as limited bandwidth; once I've used it all up, I have to wait out the rest of the month before I can use more. And when eight billion web spiders all link to a > 1 MB file on my web server or my .Mac account and then neglect to, oh, even give me any credit for hosting it or creating it in the first place, I get stabby.

So if you run one of those sites, please don't steal my bandwidth. Upload your own copy somewhere and link to that. Otherwise, I will get stabbier.

Snowplane updated

December 22nd, 2006

I'm amazed and flattered at the response Snowplane has generated. Thanks to all of you for your donations--yes, even those of you who didn't vote for Snowplane. Your support will help a lot of people. :)

I've updated Snowplane to version 1.1. It just adds a one-shot alert that tells users how to quit it, since that seems to be the main complaint.

Edit: Moved Snowplane off my iDisk, which has had all its bandwidth gobbled up.

Download Snowplane

Snowplane is now available for download! If you don't have a Mac and want to see a small, poorly-encoded demo movie, I do believe I can accommodate you.

If you vote for it, you'll be donating to Child's Play, a charity that helps children's hospitals by donating toys and games. If we get $1,000 or more donations to Child's Play, we can even get mentioned on their website. Wouldn't you love to tell your friends that the guys from Penny Arcade have heard of you? ;)

Note for Jaguar and Panther users: the binary in the download is compiled for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or newer only; the source code should compile and run on 10.2 and 10.3 (with the appropriate settings changes in Xcode, of course.) I don't have any Macs running 10.2 or 10.3, though, so I can't make any guarantees it'll work. Sorry!

Snowplane! Get it? Snowglobe? Flat screen? Snowplane? Aw forget it.

My app

December 18th, 2006

I'll be providing you with holiday cheer similar to Snö's, but a little subtler, and Universal to boot. I have no art skëëlz, so I've avoided anything that really requires them. The code for my entry is actually quite simple and scales well--at least, between my iMac Core Duo and my iBook G4. And since it's open-source, I get to comment it all! Yay!

Jonathan Grynspan

December 18th, 2006

Jonathan Grynspan is a lean, mean, Cocoaing machine! He's been working with Mac OS X for the past three or so years, and he decided that this duel would be the perfect chance to show off his astounding coding skeelz.

The charity he's chosen is Child's Play. They donate toys and games to children's hospitals in several countries. They're pure yay!

As for the app he'll be working on, it'll knock your socks off blocks of rocks!
